today, i had my first cup of homemade espresso.
i used trader joe's 5 country organic espresso blend coffee.
i used brita on-the-tap filtered water.
i used a nice floral pattern cup that is carla's.
verdict: me, two thumbs up. carla, two thumbs down.
she also likes her coffee so thick with sugar and milk you need a spoon. not that there is anything wrong with that. i'm just a black as night coffee drinker. unless it's iced, then i will go with a dash of cream.
which brings me to something that i wasn't quite aware of about oregon when i moved out here:
WHERE THE FUCK ARE ALL THE DUNKIN DONUTS?
the closest one to me is about 70 miles away in salem! sev-freakin-enty miles from me.
i used to have a large iced coffee (maybe 2) almost everyday when i was working in w. newton.
it has been over 3 months since i lasted tasted that bland, boring deliciousness that is dunks.
ugh.
maybe trader joe's will open in salem and i can transfer there.
or i could win the lottery and just open my own, so i could have dunkins whenever i wanted.
a man can dream, though. a man can dream.

metablogging and metathinking and metacrap
i find myself thinking about the "purpose" of my blog. when it started i only wanted to be cool like everyone else. then i got an audience, and i thought, "hey, people are actually going to read your run-on sentences and random, trivial, semi-coherent thoughts." and it put immense pressure on me to post and be witty and rant and rave about things that a) people could relate to b) was semi-funny or c) i could lace with several obscure vulgar metaphors.
then i quit writing.
then i tried again.
but couldn't hold onto that flavor that peppered my earlier writings
like that metaphor?
anyhoo, i think i may be back in frame of mind where i can let loose my thoughts and ramblings on an unsuspecting public. and even if no one reads this, i'm going to write like some is, but i am mainly writing for me.
i'm watching lots of tv again, i am reading magazines and newspapers, i'm watching sportscenter again, jeopardy is in the dvr everyday. i am finally making another attempt on that peak of pop culture/trivia/current events that is my mt. everest. one more sailing of the jerobaom to go after my white whale of a fantastic blog. once more into the breech, dear friends!
my life maybe boring.
in fact, i'm pretty sure i'm rocking a pretty high precentile on the boring scale.
but my thoughts are nothing but.

return to the tubes of the interweb
again, i post the blog.
again, i try to share my thoughts and feelings.
again, i say i will do this more often.
again, i make no gare-ohn-tees.
places of residence in my life:
wadena, mn
hibbing, mn
worcester, ma
milford, ma
beaverton, or
i am now on my 5th "home"town and 3rd major geographical region: midwest, new england, pacific northwest.
my biggest disappointment with portland so far: lack of major league sports.
all we have are the trailblazers, who suck.
it's not like minnesota or boston who had all 4 major sports and a rabid enthusiasm in those teams.
for crying out loud, portland just had a celebration for 1977 nba championship 'blazer team.
30 fucking years!
other random thoughts on portland/oregon:
people here love their local made booze. which i approve of.
there is an overrunning of liberals here that are of the mindset of "we should do this because it's politically correct and not conservative" and not "we should do this liberal thing because it's best for america." this is a book's worth of expository essays.
the population of portland is like 30% hipster. and i feel that hipsters are the greatest threat to modern american culture since the hippies went on a rampage in the 60s/70s.
but this is a rant for another day. maybe soon, hipsters are rocketing up my list of social groups that annoy me:
1. suicide bombing terrorist supporting islamic fundamentalists
2. socially conservative bush supporting christian fundamentalists
3. dirty hippies. (i don't mind hippies per se. in fact, i think of myself of a quasi-hippie. it's the dirty-always-drugged-patchouli-wearing-vegan-preaching hippies that i can't stand.)
4. green bay packer fans
5. hipsters
i think the main reason hipsters annoy me is because if i was slightly cooler, i would want to pretend to be super cool and become a hipster, too. :(

november 6, 2006--a monday like any other monday
as i sit on the couch wrapped in a quilt that is a gift from carla's mom, i savor my day off.
knowing--because trader joe's follows the european calendar with monday beginning the week--today is a day off sandwiched between 8 work days, the next 5 consecutive.
knowing--because i didn't fall asleep until 5 am--today is a day wasted because i didn't get up until 1:30 and i haven't left the couch since then.
except for a bathroom break.
TOMORROW IS PARTICIPATE IN DEMOCRACY DAY!!!
i hope that everyone gets out and votes.
democrat, republican, green, socialist, communist.
whatever.
just get out and vote.
for the democrats.
cuz they can't screw the country up more than it has been in the last 6 years!
and if you live in massachusetts vote yes on 1.
not only will it make it easier for you to get boozed up, it helps my company make more money, which means greater job security.
thank you for your support.

is 26 mid or late twenties? please say mid.
thatt's right folks, on monday i turned 26. it has been 7 years since i came out to the east coast.
enough reminsicing. i have some complaining to do.
no, not really. i mean i could, but nothing grinds my gears right now.
instead i will share with the world, the uncurable disease i fight daily:
crohn's disease.
specifically crohn's (granulomatous) colitis as it only affects my colon.
this grand ol' website tells you all you need to know.
but a quick run down is this: uncurable, terrible, meds for the rest of my life, and fear of going #2.
if i miss a dosage of pills (3x daily), i have to worry if i'll exhibit symptoms, if i skip a whole day of pills, i know i am going to be in big trouble in the next couple days.
it all started this past spring when i noticed blood in my bm. that freaked me out. so i went to the doctor to see what it was. he thought hemorroids, but there was no evidence of, so i was shipped off to a gastrointerologist to see what was there. he couldn't figure it out in the office, so i was signed up for a colonoscopy.
so while i was waiting for the scope to happen, i'm looking up my symptoms on webmd and google and such, and i find i have crohn's, colietis, or RECTAL CANCER.
christ almighty, i am freaked the fuck out.
in may, i had the colonoscopy. my first. here's my most vibrant memory of the procedure. they give my the sedatives, not strong enough to knock me out, just enough to make me not feel my body, or quite be aware of the 3 foot tube up my ass. now, the doc is watching his work on a tv, and i am angled in such a way that it is all i can stare at. i hear the doc say that he is taking a biopsy from the colon wall (a biopsy is a small piece a tissue so they can test it for various things).
"that is my colon," is what i'm thinking. "he just ripped a piece of my colon off." my next thought. "i didn't feel a thing!"
the colonoscopy found signs of inflammation and evidence of coliteis, so we threw me on the meds i'm still on. asacol, 2 pills 3x daily.
next was my upper gi and intestinal series.
but we'll save that for the next installment of

twinkies down 2-0
it bothers me when people complain about the free enterprise system or capitalism.
well, more so when they complain about it being a terrible system and how its destroying the earth and society.
i'm pretty sure it's not the capitalism, but the inaction of the citizens that is destroying the world.
while academic and military research has started a lot of the major technical and societal changes we have witnessed (the internet, psychology, etc), it is when somebody figures out how to make a profit on it that is when it begins to make an impact on the regular person.
what company doesn't advertise it's website nowadays?
what person doesn't pay a market to make them a sandwich (which, beyond being the most perfect food, may be the easiest to assemble)?
it is inaction and lack of will power that lets corporations and the system get away with fucking us over.
take exxon mobil. i actively make sure that i do not fill up at a exxonmobil station. if i'm lost in conneticut and i've been on E for 50 miles, that's a different story. but for my everyday commuting gas, i refuse to give my money to exxonmobil.
those silly internet petitions that go around saying "today is no buying gas day," those would work if everyone actually listened to them and took part.
we could drive that company into extinction. if everyone really cared enough about it, we could make sure exxon never made another dime.
but we don't.
because we're lazy.
or with voting. voter turnout for the 2004 presidential election was 55.3%. that was the highest since 1968. where are the other 45%? if they got out and voted for one candidate? in '04 bush received 50.7% of the vote. that's 50.7% of 55.3%. do you know how much that is?
my calculator says just over 28% of eligible voters picked w.
isn't anyone else outraged by this?
this blows my mind and pisses me off.
i may not cast a vote in every primary (i do in governor and president years), or for county clerk, but i do vote.
but at least i am out there trying to make a difference. if an extra 1.5% of voters that didn't vote went out and voted for kerry in 2004, bush would have lost.
not even 1% would have made the difference in 2000.
how can people just not care?

i want monopoly but not the new one where they updated the placenames and market prices.
like now, you get $2 million for passing go. and you can buy like time square and football stadiums and railroads are now airports.
you shouldn't mess with classics. there are things can be improved and should be improved (like a new edition of madden every year). but there are things that are the way they ought to be.
like monopoly. where $200 is a paycheck and taxes are only 10%.
i miss those days.
