jury duty

i had my first experience with the american judicial system today when i had to serve jury duty at worcester county court. i had to be there by 8 to sit around for an hour to watch a small video. then a judge came in and related a story about 9/11 and how the next day the jury trial she was working on had all the jury members still show up even though there was the instensity that happened after the terrorist attacks. she relayed how much she believed in the jury system of trials and how important they were to the basic ideas of democracy and how it was one of the things that was in the declaration of independence. then i went into a court room and they went through the process of "impanelment." that's where they choose the jury members. it was a bit longer then i expected, but slightly entertaining. i wasn't actually looking forward to the whole thing when i got up this morning. but by the end of it, i had enjoyed myself and wouldn't mind doing it again, though in massachusetts you only have to serve once every three (3) years. so if i'm still in this state in 2006, i'll be rockin' and rollin' the judicial system
